Getting Into the Goblin Camp
The Goblin Camp is west of the Blighted Village in Act 1. You can reach it by following the road west or through the Forest.
You're approaching the Goblin Camp. You have two options: talk your way in or fight your way in. Talking is much easier — you can use Deception, Intimidation, or the Drow race to pass the guards without combat.
Entering peacefully:
- Drow character: Goblins respect drow. They'll let you pass with no checks.
- Deception/Intimidation: DC 10-15 checks at the gate. Most characters can pass these.
- Illithid dialogue: Using the tadpole power gives automatic success at goblin conversations.
Entering by force: You can kill the guards, but this alerts nearby goblins. The camp has many enemies — clearing it by force is doable but much harder.
Finding Halsin in the Worg Pens
Once inside the Shattered Sanctum (the temple within the Goblin Camp), head to the northeastern area. You'll find goblins tormenting a bear in the Worg Pens.
That bear the goblins are poking? That's Halsin. He's in Wild Shape form. Talk to the goblins harassing him — you can persuade them to leave, or just kill them. Then talk to the bear to trigger Halsin's reveal.
At the Worg Pens:
- You'll see goblins torturing a bear. That bear IS Halsin.
- Persuade the goblins to leave (DC 10 check) or kill them.
- Talk to the bear — Halsin reveals himself and asks for your help.
- He'll tell you to eliminate the three goblin leaders before he can leave safely.
The Three Goblin Leaders
You need to kill all three to complete the rescue. You can do them in any order.
Leader 1: Priestess Gut
Location: The Shattered Sanctum, ground floor.
Priestess Gut is the easiest leader to isolate. Accept her offer to "brand" you. She'll take you to a private room. Once alone with her, you can kill her without alerting anyone else in the camp.
Strategy:
- The easy way: Accept her offer to help with the tadpole. She takes you to a private room. Kill her there — no witnesses, no reinforcements.
- The direct way: Attack her in the sanctum. This alerts nearby goblins but she's not very tough.
- She's a low-level cleric. One or two rounds of focused damage will finish her.
Leader 2: Dror Ragzlin
Location: The Shattered Sanctum, throne room (ground floor, central area).
Dror Ragzlin is the hobgoblin sitting on the throne. He's tougher than Gut and surrounded by goblins. If you attack him, the whole room fights. Try to thin out the guards first through stealth or dialogue, then engage.
Strategy:
- Pre-fight positioning: Before attacking, position your party around the room. Put ranged characters on the upper level.
- Use AOE to clear goblin adds early. Dror Ragzlin is the priority target, but the crowd can overwhelm you.
- He's a melee fighter. Keep your ranged characters at distance. He hits hard but can't close gaps well.
- The spider: He has a pet spider. Kill it first or it webs your party members.
Leader 3: Minthara
Location: The Shattered Sanctum, war room (west side).
Minthara is the drow commander in the war room. She's the toughest of the three. You can talk to her first to learn about the Absolute, then attack. Or just go in fighting. She has a few drow soldiers with her.
Strategy:
- Talk first. You can learn story information from her before attacking. She won't become hostile until you make a hostile action.
- She's a Paladin-type fighter with heavy armor and strong melee attacks.
- Her guards are dangerous. The drow soldiers hit harder than regular goblins. Focus Minthara first, then clean up.
- Smite abilities make her hits spike in damage. Keep your HP high.
After the Three Leaders
Once all three leaders are dead, return to Halsin in the Worg Pens (or he'll find you).
All three leaders are down. Head back to Halsin — he'll be ready to leave. He joins your camp as an ally and provides guidance on the tadpole situation. He becomes a full companion later in Act 2.
What happens next:
- Halsin joins your camp (not your active party yet)
- The goblin camp becomes hostile if it wasn't already
- You can now proceed to Act 2 by talking to Halsin at camp
- The Tiefling refugees at the Druid Grove celebrate (if they survived)
